Description
In our society, diet culture and alternative lifestyle eating have become normalized. American culture has contributed to the prevalence of disordered eating through the legal requirement for restaurants and cafes to label their menus with calorie information. While this was intended to encourage eateries to offer healthier, lower-calorie meals, for individuals with an eating disorder, the availability of these calorie menus has unfortunately enabled many people struggling with an eating disorder. Although the law has been helpful for individuals with other health issues, it has also resulted in some unintended negative consequences. People with eating disorders or disordered eating tendencies are particularly vulnerable, as calorie counting is a significant behavior.
This book aims to provide necessary information about eating disorders, how to identify them, seeking appropriate intervention, and the recovery process.
