SUMMARY:Support Group for Family & Friends
DESCRIPTION:Our support groups are at the heart of the EDF program\, providing safe places for those with eating disorders and their families to grow and to learn from one another. These groups not only have helped many who are touched by eating disorders\, but also have served as a springboard from which lasting\, supportive friendships have grown. Our groups are facilitated by volunteer counselors and master’s level practicum students. They are there to keep the conversation safe and inclusive. Our groups vary in size because they are drop-in\, but are usually around 5-25 people depending on the group. You will not be forced to participate during the groups\, but we hope you will feel EDF is a safe place to share your thoughts and feelings. Groups are accessible to all\, regardless of your struggle or diagnosis. This is not group therapy\, but rather a place to get support and build community.\nNew: the EDF Group Member Connection Group on Facebook! This is a group for our support group members to socialize and connect outside of groups. In order to join\, you must be a member of our support groups. Join here.\nYou must be at least 18 years old to attend support groups other than the Adolescent Support Group. Individuals under 18 are encouraged to call us\, or to reach out to us about speaking at their schools. Sign up for our newsletters to get informed about future workshops for adolescents and teens.

SUMMARY:F.E.A.S.T. Panel Discussion: Promoting Life in the Treatment of Severe and Enduring Eating Disorders
DESCRIPTION:We are painfully aware that eating disorders are dangerous and potentially life-threatening illnesses. Alongside that\, we hold hope in recovery for every person suffering with an eating disorder\, even in those for whom recovery seems unlikely.\nWe are alarmed that treatment pathways are being created which are robbing people of the chance to recover. We are equally appalled that in some systems\, active treatment is being withdrawn from those with enduring eating disorders\, sending a loud and clear message that there is no place for them in treatment and no hope for their recovery. \nFour of FEAST’s esteemed Advisory Panel experts will lead a discussion on the topic of Promoting Life in the Treatment of Severe and Enduring Eating Disorders\, alongside FEAST’s own Executive Director. \nThe panelists will talk about harm reduction and palliative care that is meant to be used as a vehicle to promote life. They will share their insight and experience on how people with enduring eating disorders can live better lives in the shadow of their illness\, and how their families can help them achieve this. They will address the need to combat the hopelessness associated with severe and enduring eating disorders\, and offer reasons to hold onto hope. \nPlease join F.E.A.S.T. for this sensitive discussion on a complex topic. \nPresenter Bios: \nLauren Muhlheim\, Psy.D.\, FAED\, CEDS is a psychologist\, fellow of the Academy for Eating Disorders (AED)\, and certified eating disorder specialist (CEDS) and approved supervisor for the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals (IAEDP).
